New VC Funds

  • Vorwerk Ventures announces closing the new €150M fund to back consumer-facing digital businesses. The firm will invest €1M to €10M in seed to series A companies across Europe.
  • UK’s Flashpoint closes up its third $102M fund to invest in B2B software companies. The fund will primarily focus on founders from Emerging Europe raising their series A round.
  • Tapestry VC raises a combined $50M for its early-stage and follow-on funds. The firm will back software, fintech, and “breakthrough technologies” throughout Europe and the US.
  • Gorilla Capital launches its third €50M early-stage fund. The firm will back startups across Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the Baltic states.
  • Exceptional Ventures raises a debut £20M fund to invest in health and wellness innovation. The firm will back pre-seed and seed companies across UK and Europe.
     

CEE Startup Funding Rounds & Acquisitions

  • Estonian cancer testing startup Antegenes picks up €2.3M in funding to bring the solution to more European countries. The round was brought about by a €500k grant from EIT Health, €200k from Norway Grants Green ICT, and a combined €1.6M from people like Pipedrive’s co-founder Timo Rein, Pipedrive’s first investor Peep Vain and other angel investors.
  • Ukrainian restaurant management company Choice QR raises €1.5M seed round to fund its market expansion. The investment was led by Presto Ventures and followed by Seedcamp, Reflex Capital, J&T Ventures and Purple Ventures.
  • Romanian price comparison startup Sherlook gets €300k in the seed round to cement the company’s presence in Romania. The investment was made by Equite.
  • Polish telehealth provider Doctor.One gets a 400k PLN award in a #Nephrohero competition to develop an application for the continuous treatment of kidney-related health conditions. The grant was provided through EIT Health program and was funded by Astra Zeneca.

Startup Calls

  • EIT Health InnoStars and EIT Hub Israel join forces with Novartis to launch a healthcare challenge. Those accepted into the program may have a chance of a POC with Novartis, funding, entrance to new markets, and mentorship from leading industry experts. The applications are open for startups incorporated in one of Horizon Europe's states and are open till the 15th of August.
  • Ukrainian IT Arena starts gathering applications for its 2022 Startup Competition. The finalists of the challenge will receive up to $20k in cash prizes, as well as a chance of being noticed by the region’s leading investors. To be eligible for participation, the applicants should be operating for no more than 2 years, have less than $500k in funding, and have at least a demo of their product. The applications are open till the 11th of September.
  • Croatian unicorn Infobip, Maistra Hospitality Group and Pepermint Agency launch a Foodtech Startup Competition. The challenge winners will get €20k in Infobip credits, tickets to industry events, and broader access to networking and mentoring opportunities. The challenge is primarily tailored to pre-seed and seed startups from Europe but is also open to companies from all over the globe. The applications for the challenge close on the 15th of August.
