Helsinki-based Root Signals, which develops an AI control platform based on LLM judges to make GenAI outputs measurable and reliable, has secured $2.8 million to accelerate safe GenAI adoption in businesses by enabling AI to monitor AI. The investment was led by Angular Ventures, with participation from Business Finland.
- Founded in 2023 by Ari Heljakka, Root Signals develops an AI control platform that leverages LLM judges to make Generative AI outputs measurable and dependable. The platform is designed to help businesses transition their GenAI prototypes from experimental phases to full-scale production.
- With offices in Palo Alto, California, and Helsinki, Finland, Root Signals provides enterprise-grade tools for measuring, controlling, and monitoring LLM applications, ensuring reliability, accountability, and scalable adoption of GenAI technology in the enterprise space.
"GenAI has no built-in quality control. You cannot treat it as traditional software, but rather you need to think of it as an unreliable freelancer. We make this scalable with metrics that are understandable and easy to maintain in production. Most other power tools in this sector are overly low-level and complex, or they provide more black boxes that kick the reliability can down the road," Founder and CEO of Root Signals, Ari Heljakka, stated.
Details of the deal
- The funding round was led by Angular Ventures, a London-based venture capital firm specializing in early-stage enterprise technology startups across Europe. Business Finland, a Helsinki-based venture capital entity entrusted by the Finnish government to manage a risk finance investment program focused on seed and startup companies, also participated in the round.
"Root Signals’s approach of using AI to manage enterprise AI implementation makes intuitive sense. Everyone knows 90% of enterprise GenAI projects are stalling. Doing this well enough for enterprise use cases means building a robust constellation of LLM judges, and few enterprises have sufficient know-how to do this. Fortunately for them, the Root Signals founders have been thinking about this problem for 20 years," General Partner at Angular Ventures, Gil Dibner, commented.
- The investment will enable Root Signals to accelerate the development of its platform and models, as well as enhance its sales and marketing capabilities.
