Maria Rotilu, former Octopus Ventures and Oxford Seed Fund investor, and one of the first female solo GPs in Europe, announced the launch of her venture capital firm OpenseedVC. The fund has already reached its first close, targeting $10 million.
“We are driven by 'pure merit' (hence the name OpenseedVC), and our goal is to back the most experienced operators and builders as first investors, especially at a time where the need to build truly groundbreaking and impactful solutions is critical,” Founder and GP of OpenseedVC, Maria Rotilu, stated.
- Headquartered in London, OpenseedVC is an early-stage fund that plans to invest in around 60 startups across Europe and Africa within the next five years through an open application process. The fund seeks founder profiles with a focus on domain experts and second-time founders who have successfully built and exited startups.
- OpenseedVC will focus on sectors such as the future of commerce, including B2B software, AI, and fintech, as well as the future of work and digital health. The fund will offer investment tickets of up to $150,000 for approximately a 5% stake in each company.
- OpenseedVC has already invested in UK-based AI-enabled supplier dispute resolution software, Stealth, and in Africa's Intron, a speech-to-text transcription model for underserved accents.
