Belgian biotech startup HEDERA-22, which uses DNA-based synthesis and predictive bioinformatics to develop novel natural products for agriculture, has secured €2 million in funding. The investment came from Aravis, Gesval, Noshaq, and K&E.
- Founded in 2015 by Sébastien Rigali, Denis Baurain, and Pierre Tocquin, HEDERA-22 develops an Intelligent Natural Product Discovery Platform. This platform utilizes DNA-based synthesis and unique predictive bioinformatics to discover new natural products that address significant gaps in agriculture.
- Liège-based Hederaa22 focuses on collaborative research for identifying natural metabolites for agricultural use, including herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and stimulants, and offers a pre-characterized biomolecule library for licensing.
Details of the deal
- The recent funding came from the startup’s shareholders, including Aravis, a Swiss-based venture capital firm; Liege-based investment firms GESVAL and Noshaq, and K&E. The round also received support from subsidies provided by the Walloon Region.
- With the €2 million funding round, Hedera-22 plans to continue its research and development efforts, enhance its team of experts, and advance its bioinformatics tools.
