German healthtech startup exakt health secures €2.2M seed funding

German healthtech startup exakt health, which offers an app providing customized therapy plans for sports injury recovery, has secured €2.2 million in a seed round. The fresh funding came from Barmenia Next Strategies, ESB Invest Vorpommern GmbH, Backbone Ventures, and Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund.

  • Founded in 2021 by Lucia Payo Molina and Philip Billaudelle, exakt health develops a medically certified app that provides personalized physiotherapy plans for running injury recovery, rehabilitation, and prevention.
  • The app adapts treatment based on the user's stage of recovery, using a combination of medical research, modern design, and technology to offer intelligent, individualized care.
  • The startup serves over 100,000 runners worldwide, including athletes like Anna Gehring, the 2018 German champion and long-distance runner.

Details of the deal

  • The funding round came from Barmenia Next Strategies, a Wuppertal-based early-stage venture investor in the insurtech and health sectors, as well as German VC ESB Invest Vorpommern GmbH and Zurich-based BackBone Ventures, which focuses on startups in Germany and Switzerland.
  • Additionally, Auxxo Female Catalyst Fund and business angels, including Maximilian Tayenthal and Cornelia Oelling geb. Hoppe, joined the investment round.
  • With the €2.2 million in funding, the startup aims to enhance its product by launching an exciting new app update in October. The new update will feature AI-powered running plans that offer non-injured runners a fully personalized training experience tailored to their unique needs and progress.
