Dutch PhotonVentures, a deep tech venture capital firm, has secured €5 million for its fund, which focuses on the photonics industry in the Netherlands. The investment was provided by Invest-NL and a group of new private investors.
- Founded in 2023 by Ewit Roos, Pieter Klinkert, and Joachim de Sterke, PhotonVentures is a deep tech VC firm specializing in investments in photonics startups across the Netherlands and Europe, with a focus on integrated photonics.
- The firm offers capital, access to networks, and rapid market feedback, helping high-potential companies accelerate their growth.
- With 14 investments in leading companies such as Smart Photonics and PhotonFirst, PhotonVentures leverages its in-house expertise and strategic partnership with PhotonDelta to identify and support the most promising photonics startups in Europe.
- The investment came from Invest-NL, an Amsterdam-based impact investment firm that supports innovative and sustainable entrepreneurial ventures in the Netherlands.

As one of the few photonics funds in Europe, PhotonVentures is a vital player in the further development of this sector. Our investment makes a significant contribution to the growth and innovation of the integrated photonics industry in the Netherlands," Investment Manager at Invest-NL, Liz Duijves, stated.
- The PhotonVentures Fund I also saw support from a group of prominent tech investors, family offices, and organizations such as the Brabant Development Agency (BOM), PhotonDelta, Oost NL, the University of Twente, and TNO. The fund, aiming for a final size of €100 million, is expected to close by the end of this year.
