Cluj-Napoca-based startup .lumen, which manufactures devices to improve mobility for people with visual impairments, has secured €5 million.
- Founded in 2020 by Cornel Amariei, .lumen develops advanced technology to aid the visually impaired. The startup's key products include the Lumen Glasses and PAD AI, which use pedestrian semantic segmentation to enhance mobility, independence, and safety for blind individuals.
- The funding includes €4 million from the European Innovation Council and Bratislava-based VC Venture to Future Fund. €1 million came from private investors via SeedBlink, an equity management and investment platform.
“This record round on SeedBlink is a testament to the potential for innovation in Romania. Despite being ranked as the least innovative country in the EU by the official Innovation Scoreboard, we believe Romania can deliver life-changing innovations to the world. Thank you for sharing this belief,” CEO and founder of .lumen, Cornel Amariei, stated.
- The capital raised will support. lumen's strategic roadmap, which includes a limited-series launch in Q4 2024 and entry to the US market in Q4 2025.
- The startup plans to market 10,000 devices by the end of 2026, providing independence and safety to visually impaired people worldwide.
