German Alpine Space Ventures closes €170M fund to support the global space sector

Munich-based VC Alpine Space Ventures has closed a €170 million fund to support the global space ecosystem, especially in Europe and the US. The fund saw participation from the European Investment Fund and the NATO Innovation Fund.

  • Founded in 2020 by Bulent Altan and Joram Voelklein, Alpine Space Ventures is a venture capital firm that invests in startups specializing in the space sector, including space-borne connectivity and data technologies.
  • With this new fund, Alpine Space Ventures plans to make around 10 to 15 investments, with investment amounts ranging from €1 million to €5 million. The remaining capital will be used for follow-on funding rounds.
  • Alpine Space Ventures has already supported five companies with this fund, including K2 Space Corporation, Reflex Aerospace, Blackwave GmbH, Morpheus Space, and Source Energy. 70% of the fund is allocated to European companies, but the firm is also keenly interested in opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.
  • The fund's LPs include over 20 early SpaceX employees, alongside significant institutions such as the European Investment Fund, the NATO Innovation Fund, and others.

"We are very much aligned with what SpaceX has done, and we are investing in the wake of it, We aim to empower companies that are building on the opportunities created by the 800-pound gorilla in the room without directly competing with it.” Founding Partner at Alpine Space Ventures, Bulent Altan, commented.
